The daily tour
When does a new tour open?
Every day at 7:00, by the clock on your iPhone. Until then, yesterday’s tour stays open.
What is in a tour?
Five stops, about five minutes. Many tours open with a short video about three objects or a short film about one. Then come three real objects with a fact each, and one object to guess: “What is this?” After the tour you can play the Heist, and some tours end with a case file.
Many objects have “More about this”: the longer story, where the object is today, and the sources.
What is Keep exploring?
After today’s tour, Keep exploring shows more from the whole museum: objects, short videos and films, drawn anew when you come back. It prefers what you have not seen yet and the rooms you spend time in. The app works this out on your iPhone; nothing is sent anywhere. Visitors see five a day, members have no daily limit.
I missed a day. Is the tour gone?
No. Everyone starts with tour 1, and nobody misses a tour: your next tour opens at 7:00 on the morning after you started the last one. If you pause for a few days, you go on where you left off. Every tour you have walked stays under You, then Your tours, to walk again.
The Heist and case files
How does the Heist work?
You break into the museum after hours: fifteen rooms to the vault, with a question about a real object in each, from easy to fiendish. A right answer takes the room’s object; a wrong one sets off the alarm. Hideouts after rooms 5 and 10 keep your loot safe, and three tricks help once each: the torch, an inside tip and a decoy question.
Every visitor gets a heist each day. Members can play as often as they like.
What is a case file?
A true story, told from sources and narrated, in which you play an invented part, for example a young detective at Scotland Yard in 1966. You make the decisions; the file then shows what really happened. The real people appear only in the narration. A case file takes about four minutes, with sound on.
Membership
What do members get?
The next tour right away instead of waiting until the next morning, every room of the museum open right away instead of level by level, Keep exploring without a daily limit, and the Heist as often as they like. Your tour of the day and every tour you have walked stay free for everyone.
What does it cost?
There is a monthly and a yearly membership, both renewing automatically, and a one-time purchase for life. The app shows the current price in your currency before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
Can I use my membership on another iPhone?
Yes. The membership belongs to your Apple Account. Install Exhibit on the other iPhone, sign in with the same Apple Account and use Restore purchases.
The free week
How does the free week work?
The yearly membership starts with a free week if you have not had a free trial of Exhibit before. Apple allows one introductory offer per person for the membership.
If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the free week ends, the yearly membership begins: the yearly price is charged to your Apple Account, and it renews every year until you cancel. If notifications are allowed, the app reminds you two days before the free week ends.
Cancelling and refunds
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, in your Apple Account settings:
- Open Settings on your iPhone and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Exhibit.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
Members can also open You, then Your profile, then Manage subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid the next charge; the membership then stays active until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Apple’s guide: Cancel a subscription from Apple.
The membership for life is a single purchase, not a subscription. There is nothing to cancel.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple’s guide: Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple.
In the EU you can withdraw from a purchase within 14 days without giving a reason, under Apple’s terms; for subscriptions this applies to the first purchase, not to renewals. Members can also open You, then Your profile, then Withdraw a purchase: the app opens Apple’s refund request for a purchase from the last 14 days.
Restoring purchases
How do I restore my membership?
- Make sure your iPhone is signed in with the Apple Account you bought the membership with.
- In Exhibit, open You and tap Become a member (or Your membership).
- Tap Restore purchases.
This works on a new iPhone too. If the app finds no purchase, check that you are signed in with the right Apple Account.
Progress, reminders and sound
Where is my progress stored?
Only on your iPhone. There is no account and no sign-in. Deleting the app deletes your progress. Like other app data, it is part of your iPhone’s backup, so it comes back when you restore that backup, for example on a new iPhone.
How do I turn the daily reminder on or off?
Open You and tap Daily reminder. The first time, the app asks for permission to send notifications. You can also turn them off in Settings > Notifications > Exhibit.
Why do the films play with sound when my iPhone is on silent?
Films and narration play like in other video apps, also with the Ring/Silent switch set to silent. To mute them, use the volume buttons or turn off Sound on the You tab.
Which devices does Exhibit run on?
iPhone with iOS 17 or later. The app is in English.
Facts, sources and AI
Where do the facts come from?
Every fact is checked twice against at least two independent sources, with AI. The sources are museums, archives, courts, newspapers and historians; encyclopedias and trivia sites only point the way. You find them in the app under Sources and More about this.
What is made with AI?
The texts are written and checked with AI, against at least two sources each. The narration of films and case files is an AI voice. Some film scenes are AI-generated images, and the app labels them. The photographs of objects are real photographs, in the public domain or under open licences such as CC0, CC BY and CC BY-SA, with the credit on each photo.
Report a mistake
Every fact has two sources. If you find a mistake, tell us at burolab.office@gmail.com. Please name the object or the tour number, what is wrong and, if you have one, a source. We check every report against the sources, and reported errors are corrected with the next update of the app. If a statement concerns you, you can ask us to publish your reply with it. Tell us too if an AI label is missing.
